Addictions the Common College Student Experiences

As intense as the title of this post sounds, it really isn't that intense. Most high schoolers (hopefully) aren't addicted to much passed their favorite soda or candy bar.

Once college comes, class schedules get busy, nights get longer, mornings come quicker and before you know it, you'll wonder when the last time you finished an entire home cooked meal in one sitting.

I think freshmen are relatively safe from the common addictions, but come sophomore year, students are learning about caffeine and different ways to stay focused until at least Friday when all their deadlines have approached.

Caffeine is probably the most common addiction. A lot of people don't like regular at-home coffee, but they have no problem pulling through Starbucks and ordering their favorite mixed espresso drink.

If it's not coffee, then it's probably Redbull or some sort of energy drink because those give the much-needed jolt of energy when finishing that homework assignment or studying for the test becomes crucial.

Adderall is dangerous and increasingly more popular as semesters roll on. Doctors say it's over-the-counter meth, but a lot of people are legally prescribed the medicine. Adderall is basically attention deficit disorder or ADD medication for students who have a real struggle sitting still and focusing on the task at hand. Other students use it recreationally.

I'm not sure if Melatonin is addictive, but I do know the busier the schedule and mind, the nicer it is relying on Melatonin to ease the going-to-sleep process. Thankfully that medicine is herb-based so it's not horrible, but an addiction is an addiction. If it's not needed, it's probably not necessary to consume.

This is just a mild list of relatively innocent, but common addictions of college students.
