Today is Wednesday, February the 20th!
I hope you are having a great week so far!
One of the many purposes of this blog is to inform you on stories the media isn't necessarily informing you on. So, first we'll begin with military history because it's important to know where our country comes from, and it's important to honor brave men and women who have fought before us for the precious freedoms we take for granted today.
You may not have known this, but there was a pretty significant anniversary in American history on Tuesday.
Tuesday was the 74th anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima. There's quite a bit of history you may not know about regarding the battle.
A couple of facts we'll highlight in this post are the following:
- the famous photo of soldiers, who are Marines, holding up the American flag is from Iwo Jima.
- Iwo Jima is an island in Japan
- America won the battle
- The battle lasted five weeks, February 19-March 26, 1945
- The rest of the rich history is here if you would like to read about it.
In news completely unrelated to the above, it was announced on Monday evening that Deputy Attorney General, Rod Rosenstein, will resign in mid-March.
In other news, Chanel fashion designer, Karl Lagerfeld, passed away at age 84 in Paris.
Last, but not least - Bernie Sanders announced his presidential bid for 2020 among just about every other loud Democrat name in politics today.
That's it for today! Stay tuned to see what news Thursday and Friday will bring!
