Importance of Staying Informed

It has occurred to me that most people don't watch the news on television. They get their news through social media or by word of mouth, but not the nightly news.
When I say news, I'm not talking about 24/7 breaking news on CNN or Fox, I'm talking about their local nightly news.
The reason this is a problem is because whether you are in the business of informing others or not, people should want to take an interest on what is going on in the world around them. The latest news story could be anything from a new scam at Walmart, to the latest way people are sex trafficking or what the last military mission was and its results.
Being informed is not bad, it's not scary, it doesn't harm others. It is simply a way to be more aware of your surroundings and sometimes it comes down to staying safe.
Ways you can stay informed are social media - there's no shame in that. Sometimes the story goes a little more in-depth when there is a link to click for more details.
Another way to stay informed is by watching a segment or a show on the local nightly news. They usually have a well-rounded line-up of stories. You will probably get an update on the way the city is being run, how the school district is doing, maybe some crime and a little sports update - professional, college and local.
If you want to really get crazy, maybe you tune into a debate on your choice of the "mainstream media." On any given night, you might get an update on the never-ending conversation on gun control, immigration reform, or the latest moves in the administration.
Sometimes it can be fun and a nice little break from the day-to-day grind to see what others are doing in the world.
Regardless, it's important to stay on top of how your tax dollars are being spent, how your children are being educated at their schools, and what your elected officials are doing.
I would kindly suggest over the next few weeks or so that you find a social media app you like best to keep up-to-date on what is going on. You can also search for your favorite nightly news program to watch once a week. It seems the latest follow "trend" for the news is to follow television personalities. Sometimes you might even get a behind-the-scenes look at how the show is put together with all your favorite co-hosts, which makes the news program that much more interesting.
I sincerely wish you a good luck on finding new ways to stay informed if you don't already.
