Headlines worth discussing

What a weekend! You may have missed some of the headline drama, but we have you covered.

In case you didn't catch it, the president got in a little Twitter trouble when he criticized the interview between LeBron James and CNN's Don Lemon.

James opened a school in Ohio called 'IPromise.' His school "promises" free tuition, free uniforms, free transportation within two miles, free meals, job placement services & GEDs for parents and guaranteed tuition to the University of Akron for everyone who graduates. Pretty neat deal. Take it as you will, but Trump didn't criticize the school, he criticized the interview on CNN.

Another story happening, but getting very little air time is the story on Mollie Tibbetts. She was out running one night with shorts, running shoes, a top and her phone.

According to foxnews.com, Tibbetts was last seen July 18 at 7:30pm. She was staying at her boyfriend's house - who is not a suspect - while he was away working.

The recent story published on Saturday evening that has come of this investigation is that the FBI has interviewed a pig farmer for the second time, who plead guilty to two stalking cases in 2009 and 2014. The pig farmer allowed the police to search the property, but would not take a polygraph test.

According to the Associated Press, a suicide bomber kills three Czech NATO forces in Afghanistan in the early hours of Sunday morning. The attack wounded one American soldier and two Afghan troops. The Taliban have claimed responsibility.

Probably the most important, but least mentioned headline is about the attempted assassination of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on Saturday night. The Associated Press reports that President Maduro "will use suspected assassination attempt to purge disloyal officials and further clamp down on liberties."

Maduro was speaking at a military celebration when drones loaded with explosives went off before getting to the president. "David Smilde of the Washington Office on Latin America says the amateurish attack didn't appear to be staged by Maduro's government for political gain," according to the AP. The president announced Saturday night that the Venezuelan "authorities have captured some of those responsible for what he is calling an assassination attempt." American National Security Adviser, John Bolton, says the U.S. was not involved in attempt.

Don't let all this negative news get you down, but be thankful America did well this week. Aside from the American soldier injured and Tibbetts missing for almost a month, it was a pretty successful week in the land of the free. Let's go for two!
