Trials and Tribulations

Tuesday was a long day for America, but it became a long day around 1 in the afternoon. Let me help you understand what happened yesterday.

First, Post Malone - the rapper who sings "Congratulations" and many other popular songs - took a flight from New Jersey directly after the Video Music Awards and made a landing in Orange County, New York after two tires blew out of the private jet. So, in my opinion, that is strange and only mild compared to the rest of the days news.

Second, now the country is familiar with the Mollie Tibbetts story, but many have been following that story since she went missing on July 18 when she went on an evening run in Brooklyn, Iowa. Authorities found her dead in a corn field and arrested the suspect responsible for her death, which is 24-year-old Christian Rivera, who is an illegal immigrant.

Third, the president's former lawyer Michael Cohen plead guilty to eight charges and admits to violating federal campaign finance laws. Simultaneously, former Trump campaign chief, Paul Manafort was found guilty of tax fraud.

America ended the heavy news day by watching the president's MAGA rally in West Virginia in hopes of responding to the day's news, but he never did. When he walked into the Civic Center in Charleston, West Virginia, he said the news about Manafort "has nothing to do with Russian collusion" and "called it a disgrace." There was speculation Trump might pardon Manafort during the rally, but that didn't happen.

It's easy to get wrapped up in all the legal talk and get confused on what the mainstream is pulling out of the news versus what is important to focus on. Here's the deal: President Trump has done nothing wrong. Paul Manafort's legal troubles were three months prior to the Trump campaign.

Mollie Tibbetts' murder is very unfortunate and on behalf of the team here at Jon Street Media, we are keeping her family in our thoughts and prayers. However, there are three things to keep in mind when we read the countless stories of similar situations.

The first, our parents were not crazy or "out of touch" when they told us to be home before the street lights. Tibbetts went on a night jog at 7:30. I realize it was July and therefore the sun doesn't go down until almost 9, but it was sunset and probably dusk by the time she got lost. Regardless, it's hard to see.

Second, Tibbetts' murderer was not in this country legally. This starts the immigration argument all over again because it becomes more controversial every time. The bottom line is the man was here illegally and killed an innocent college girl.

Third, Mollie Tibbetts and Kate Steinle and all the other countless men and women who are killed by illegal immigrants deserve the wall. The American people deserve the wall. There is something to say in protecting ourselves and what to do when we are in danger, but we shouldn't have to look over our shoulder when we are having a quiet night at home doing as we please.

Hopefully this makes sense. For a little mid-week motivation, click here.
