Happpppy Mondayyyy!
I think I speak for everyone when I say I am happy to see a fresh, new, blank week. I highly anticipate another round of an exhausting news cycle. This has been arguably one of the *very few* news weeks of my life that has the entire country talking. One thousand talking points and hot takes on Twitter and Facebook. That includes one thousand and counting of memes on Instagram (and really Twitter and Facebook, too.)
In case you have heard the never-ending news cycle of the week and are confused about why it's so politically earth-shattering, allow me to break it down - from my understanding - in three short points:
1. Judge Kavanaugh is replacing Anthony Kennedy on the Supreme Court, who is the swing vote of decision making. Currently, there are only eight judges. Kavanaugh is the ninth.
2. This man has been accused of sexual assault from a woman who was allegedly at the same party as him in 1982. Kavanaugh was in college and Dr. Ford was in high school.
3. The part that has political officials, registered republican voters and quite frankly everyone who is considered "the media" in a real frenzy is the basis of which Dr. Ford has very little evidence and cannot remember specific details. Details that have been argued over and over again that would be remembered of someone who has experienced sexual assault of any kind, but specifically as violent as she claims them to be. These details being where she was, when the exact date it happened was, who she went to and from the party with, an idea of who attended the party with and who is currently paying all her legal expenses.
I'll admit the third point wasn't exactly short, but it is the main reason anyone remotely interested in politics has their head spinning all the way around.
There are plenty other points to make about the corruption around all this, but I will leave it at the above three points.
That is why I think most of the country is looking forward to a fresh week. Unfortunately, the American people who are paying the most attention right now are split directly in half between 100 percent believing Dr. Ford and 100 percent standing with Brett Kavanaugh. At some point this week, we will have a breaking story of some decision that has been made whether it's from the FBI, who is now in the middle of Kavanaugh's seventh investigation, the Trump administration or frankly another alleged victim of assault from Kavanaugh with little evidence.
The worst part, at this point of the news cycle, is how many conspiracy theories there are floating around the internet. That's a rabbit hole to go down so feel free to do your own searching, but for me at least, it is making certain news stories hard to believe.
I am looking forward to discussing how the week is going on Wednesday. Until then, I hope we can all find ways to keep our sanity, even if there's only a little left by Friday.
