Trust the Process

Happy Monday! Try to stay warm today!

It's been a relatively politically quiet weekend. There have been round table discussions about voter fraud, reports on increasing wildfire damage and fatalities, and Veteran's Day commemorations.

Fox New's Pete Hegseth, who served in the Iraq War, taped a Veteran's Day special Sunday night with war heroes including Marcus Luttrell, Dakota Moyer, Sean Parnell, and Rob O'Neill.

I recorded it, but I had to watch the Dallas Cowboys play Philadelphia. (Good game, mostly relieved they won.)

On behalf of everyone at Jon Street Media, we want to thank every Veteran, in the past, present and future, for their service to this country. Freedom is not free, and we do not take one second for granted.

With that said, today's post is going to be a little different and probably a little long.

We are going to talk about chasing a dream not many chase, which is journalism. There are several different avenues to take with this dream. We won't get into the different avenues, but I'll get into the avenues I've taken and what I've learned (so far).

The reason I began chasing journalism was the passion to constantly be informed on the world local, nationwide, and abroad. I found myself constantly being curious about what was happening, the history of this country, and I wanted to tell others what was going on.

I majored in journalism in college and was blessed to become certified in radio broadcasting, and get some extraordinary experience and a bachelor's of science in Communications with an emphasis in print and television broadcast journalism. I love the different thrill I get from doing all three.

Let's discuss what chasing this dream might look like (at least for me):

- Constantly reading, writing, and listening to what certain professionals in the business are doing, what they are saying, how they are saying it, and what they look like. I am always reading articles on various topics, listening to experts who know a subject I want to know more about, and following people on social media who do what I want to do to learn from them.

Staying the path:

- I had an idea at a relatively young age (18) of what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. As I got farther into college, I was able to learn what each avenue brought - whether it's radio, print, or television - and sharpen the goal(s) I had.

- I've met a lot of people in this industry who have an idea, but aren't sure what they want to do, which is completely normal. The reason I needed to hone down my ideas was because I was getting lost on the goal and distracted. Staying focused and staying the path has been the only way to chase this dream as "correctly" as I know how to do.

Trusting the process:

- This is really hard because it's basically the blind leading the blind. Obviously no one knows what my future holds except God. All I can do is my best and work hard. So, trusting the process and the plan can be really fun and exhilarating and other times it can be really lonely, scary, and boring.

Keeping a positive focus:

- The times when it gets really lonely, scary, and boring is when it's important to re-focus, look at the goals, figure out how I can improve where I'm at, and what I can be doing different or more of. If there are opportunities so close it could bite me, then I must wake up to those. The unknown is the fun part because if I knew then what's the point in all of this?

Hopefully these tidbits helps you in chasing whatever dream you have.

I hope you have a good day and are able to learn something new today!
