I can't believe this is our last post before 2019!! Thank you so much for liking our social media posts, reading our blogs, and allowing us to share our love of journalism and analysis of the madness within this crazy world. This blog has grown passed my expectations in regards to topics and content.

I mentioned there may be a special post over the weekend in the last blog because I only discussed one news story on Friday - after missing Wednesday with Christmas.

Clearly the "weekend edition" didn't make it to the blog over the weekend. There were so many news stories all over the place literally between Christmas day and Sunday that it was a challenge to keep up.

Since I love doing these blogs so much (and because I got my first tablet for Christmas), I decided to dig in with more discussion than usual this time.

(Note:) Sometimes - during the struggle - I wonder why I'm pursuing the journalist career route, and then I find myself nerding out over the latest news, finding analysis, making my own analyses, and sharing the important information I find either on this blog, or with those physically around me.

Let's get to it.

We discussed Mattis' resignation on Monday, the POTUS and FLOTUS trip to Iraq on Friday. Now, let's dig deeper into the shutdown. What we are seeing from social media is that a lot of Americans are confused about why and how long the government will be done, and what is happening during this time. I'm here to help.

Here is another reminder that the media is not in touch with reality. By the way, when I say "the media," I'm referring to the left - CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, and on occasion Fox. Although, a lot of their false information is said on television instead of print - not always though.

On most newscasts across the spectrum, they are discussing shutdown and "what it means for Americans." Well, so far, it means A LOT of messaging and a lot of behind-the-scenes work on Donald Trump's part.

We can confirm Nancy Pelosi is vacationing in Hawaii and the president is in DC working while they bicker on the record about funding for the southern border. If that doesn't speak volumes to you about the agenda both parties have, I can't help you.

Next: News reports from all over explained that the "Obama's have topped 2018's Most Admired list in an annual survey conducted by Gallup".

Over Christmas there was a lot of backlash from conservatives on Twitter when a Guatemalan boy had passed away at the border - making that "the second child to die under such circumstances," according to foxnews.com.

"Immigration officials say an agent first noticed that the child showed signs of potential illness, and brought the boy and his father to the medical center where the boy was diagnosed with the common cold. The boy was discharged after doctors found a fever and gave the boy amoxicillin and ibuprofen."

Another story over the weekend that went viral was about an illegal immigrant who shot and killed a Los Angeles police officer at a stop light.

"In Newman, California, Gustavo Perez Arriaga is accused of killing Corporal Ronil "Ron" Singh when he conducted a traffic stop on Arriaga's pickup truck in the small town of Newman early Wednesday morning, for suspicion of driving under the influence," according to abc30.com. "Moments later, Singh called in for shots fired. Several deputies from both Stanislaus and Merced counties responded, where greyhound the truck and suspect gone and Corporal Singh lying on the ground. He was rushed to the hospital, but died from his injuries."

As of Sunday night, Outgoing Chief of Staff John Kelly contradicts the president by saying, "to be honest, it's not a wall."

Personally - As someone who likes Kelly - I would argue that the president has repeatedly shown the plans for this "wall" as very tall steel fence posts. You are welcome to see his Instagram for more information on this.

If you are overwhelmed at the amount of news happening during the week when no one knows what day it is or what they are supposed to do, you're not alone.

Happy Monday, Happy NYE, and (technically) we'll meet again in 2019, which is CRAZY!
