Happy New Year

Happy New Year!! Hopefully you rang in the New Year the way you wanted to and are ready for a new year full of potential! I know I'm ready for what some consider a fresh start.
If you have been following my blogs or the news at all for the last year (or more), you know this world is entirely too sensitive and politically correct, and you won't find many JSM blogs written by me that abide by the P.C. rules. It's an exhausting way to live. Personally, I prefer not to walk on egg shells around people in fear of offending them.
In case you missed it, the U.S. Strategic Command posted a tweet writing, "#TimeSquare tradition rings in the #NewYear by dropping the big ball.... If ever needed, we are #ready to drop something much, much bigger! Watch til the end." They were referring to the video they attached of a jet with bombs attached ready to fall.
Obviously this was meant to be a joke. They were making light of defending Times Square in a domestic terrorism situation, which obviously is nothing but incredibly serious, scary, and heart-wrenching.
Was it good from a PR-standpoint? I think with the military being our brave heroes who stand against foreign and domestic enemies, they can do whatever they want. They're known to be tough, it's clear we have a strong military. They understand NYC is crowded anyway, and it's important to be prepared for anything especially big celebrations, such as the one they talked about in their tweet.
If you follow military happenings at all - anywhere from who is in charge, stories within the service, or possibly non-profit organizations that give back to the veteran community - you understand that part of the life as a service member comes with morbid humor. It's their way of coping with otherwise dark lows.
In other stories, someone else had something to say toward Trump in an op-ed on Tuesday. Before incoming Senator-Elect Mitt Romney gets sworn in, he decided to say a few very unkind words about the boss.
"To a great degree, a presidency shapes the public character of a nation," Romney writes. "A president should unite us and inspire us to follow our better angels'. A president should demonstrate the essential qualities of honesty and integrity, and elevates the national discourse with comity and mutual respect. With the nation so divided, resentful and angry, presidential leadership in qualities of character is indefensible. And it is in this province where the incumbent's shortfall has been most glaring."
So far the president hasn't responded.
This isn't a very positive way to begin a new journey as an elected official by bashing the person who beat him for the Oval Office.
Stay tuned, my friends.
